Doing my bit for the StackExchange family of sites

Published on Saturday, 14th November 2009.

If you have been following the Stack Overflow blog, you'll know that StackExchange is the software behind Stack Overflow, Server Fault and Super User. You'll probably also know (especially if you've been lurking on Meta Stack Overflow) that there are already a bunch of sites built on this platform.

I'm a believer that the software works quite well for the question and answer sort of thing. It definitely had something that ExpertSexChange didn't - for example, free to use, and no scammy techniques to try and get your money.

I've joined up to a few of these sites and have answered a few questions. These sites are all relatively new, so it's amazing to see myself listed in the top 5 users, instead of being around page 15 of Stack Overflow users.

The first site I joined is Autos on Stack Exchange. I myself am a fan of the workings of the different types of internal combustion engines, and all the other related stuff that goes on with cars. My profile is currently number #4 for reputation in the system.

The other site I've joined and am actively participating in is Slide to Ask, a questions and answers site for users of the iPhone and iPod touch. I recently became an iPhone user, and like everything else I own, I try to know as much as I can about it. My profile on this site is ranked #4 as well.

Now, of course, I don't think I'll stay at those positions. I do understand there are many much more knowledgeable people out there in these areas, but because I'm an early user, I have the benefit of being ranked quite high :). I believe my small contributions are helping the sites I mentioned however. I recommend if you do have an interest in the Stack Overflow software, to check out the other Stack Exchange sites available.

Besides my involvement in other StackExchange sites, my development time outside work hours has been limited, primary due to the busy time of the year and also a little project I was undertaking on my car, which is now finished :).

Update

I'm now a moderator on Autos on Stack Exchange and #2 on Slide to Ask!

Thank you very much for all the help you're giving to the growing family of StackExchange sites, we at http://slidetoask.com/ really appreciate it :)
We hope to become a really useful tool to you and all iPhone/iPod Touch users, as soon as we can.
